Mehr Demokratie e.V. is committed to the further development of democracy. With lot-based citizens' councils at all political levels, they want to enable direct participation. A citizens' assembly functions like a lay parliament in which randomly selected citizens debate a given topic for an extended period of time, develop possible solutions and then submit a final report. In this way, they complement political processes such as parliamentary debates and expert commissions. The Citizens' Assembly is also intended to change the nature of the discussion compared to conventional parliaments, as it not only looks out for its own interests, but also engages in a deliberative exchange - which can be eye-opening and reconciliatory for the participants themselves. With the LOSLAND project, the association is designing and evaluating municipal participation processes together with the IASS Potsdam.
